This is the first in a new series of releases from Fritz Pape, focused on generative, evolving, designed music scenarios.

I've been long fascinated with generative music - that is, music that's more-or-less entirely made by some kind of machine - but it's always felt like some kind of cheating. If the machine is doing all the sound making for me, what role do I have in it?

All music is created by decisions. Musicians make a whole smattering of choices - what instrument to play, what notes to play on it, when to play those notes, how to react afterwards - and some kind of organized sound comes out of the mix.

In these pieces - made with eurorack patches and computer programs - the decisions are still being made, and music is still created - those decisions just happen at possibly a slower pace than usual.

Each of the pieces in this series are designed to be technically endless, in length and subtle variation. Numerous elements (timbre, volume, space in the stereo field, etc) are constantly in flux, offering countless permutations of pieces of sound locking together.

Each release will be recorded digitally, and onto 5 cassette tapes, direct from the source. Because the source is always in motion, each tape is full of entirely unique sounds.
